First, an introduction to me
Hi, my name is Sabine Maas. I am a dressage and trail rider and a Masterson Method Certified Practitioner (MMCP). I got my first and only horse 7 years ago. I became interested in The Masterson Method® when witnessing first hand the difference it made in the wellbeing and performance of my horse. Throughout my training to become certified, I have further seen the powerful effects this method can have on a horse. Whether your horse is short, tall, Grand Prix bound, or is retired in the pasture, all horses build up tension and stiffness in their muscles which they cannot release themselves. It is through this method of bodywork that horses are able to release and start moving more comfortably and more freely. Why your horse can benefit from the Masterson Method® based equine bodywork ?
- It is based on decades of work throughout the professional and amatueur horse world
- It works with your horse rather than on your horse
- It is a truly integrated method of bodywork
- It is a non-invasive form of bodywork
- It works well together with other treatments such as chiropractic adjustments, PEMF, laser therapy, or joint injections given by your veterinarian.
- It allows for releases of physical and emotional tension
Second, about The Masterson Method® and what is an MMCP (Masterson Method Certified Practioner)
The Masterson Method® is a method of bodywork developed in 2005 by Jim Masterson after years of extensive body work with Thoroughbred race horses, Grand Prix horses, Western performance horses, trail horse, and everything in between. Jim took all his knowledge and experience into a training method allowing people to start helping horses with this form of integrated bodywork. The Masterson Method® techniques bypass the horse's natural fight or flight (sympathetic) response, allowing the natural regenerative (parasympathetic) part of the horse's nervous system to release deeper core and postural muscle tension. This tension is formed by work or injury or stress and tends to concentrate itself in key junctions in the horse's body, affecting range of motion, flexibility, and performance. Using The Masterson Method®, a practitioner applies techniques on these key junctions in the horses body to target all bodywork areas: muscles, fascia, joints, autonomic nervous system, and energetic elements. It is a truly integrated form of bodywork! For more information, see the "About" and "What to Expect" pages. Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
An MMCP is a person who has gone through The Masterson Method® pathway to certification. Such a person has completed a 2-days and a 5-days training course, 3 blocks of fieldwork, a home study of the method, a horse anatomy course, and has completed successfully the final certification course. Completing this entire pathway takes hundreds of hours of intense training and rigorous examination of knowledge and practical skills. A person is able to engage in performing bodywork already after the 2-days training course but will not have the knowledge, technique, and skill that comes with completion of the entire program.

Important Information
Taking care of our horses is a team effort!
A bodywork session can provide important information about how your horse is doing and may reveal patterns of reactivity or restriction which affect your horse's wellbeing or athletic performance. You may wonder if this means there is a specific problem with your horse. EQUINE BODYWORK IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR EVALUATION OR TREATMENT BY A VETERINARIAN! However, always feel free to take the obtained information from your horse's session to your veterinarian. I will be glad to speak with you or your veterinarian if there are any questions or concerns. I welcome recommendations from your veterinarian as to how this type of bodywork can help your horse. Some horses should not receive this type of bodywork. I always recommend you first ask your veterinarian if there are any reasons why your horse may not be a candidate for The Masterson Method® or Raindrop Massage Therapy.
